Our History
Under the dazzling sun of the Rhône Valley, Beaucastel tells a story not just of a wine, but also of a family, a vision and the transmission of timeless skills.
It all began in 1549 when Pierre de Beaucastel acquired a barn in Coudoulet. A few decades later, the site boasted a fine manor house, decorated with the family coat of arms sculpted in stone. History took a royal turn in 1687, when Louis XIV appointed his descendant, also named Pierre de Beaucastel, “Captain of the Town of Courthézon”. This honour was immortalised in a letter signed by the King himself, and his minister, Colbert.
Several centuries would pass before, in 1909, the estate was bought by Pierre Tramier who gave it a new lease of life. He later passed the reins to his son-in-law, Pierre Perrin, a man of science with very high standards. Pierre shaped the modernisation of Beaucastel, which continued up to 1978 under Jacques Perrin, a visionary whose name evokes winemaking prowess and excellence to this day.
Today, the torch continues to shine brightly in the hands of Jean-Pierre and François Perrin, Jacques' sons, who carry on the tradition with passion, accompanied by the fifth generation: Marc, Pierre, Thomas, Cécile, Charles, Matthieu and César.
It’s very much a family affair at Beaucastel. With the Perrins, transmission is not just a word - it is an art. Absolute respect for the land, a philosophy of biodynamics, the search for truth, balance and elegance: these are values that are ingrained in each generation, each wine, each emotion.
Because Beaucastel is more than a wine estate - it is an atmosphere. An atmosphere of natural nobility and of expertise passed on like a precious secret.
