Our Terroir

Under the influence of the Mistral wind, Beaucastel has sculpted an exceptional vineyard on this earth of pebbles, where the power of the Rhône meets the elegance of time.

At Beaucastel, the vineyard stretches out like a living landscape: 130 hectares bathed in light, 100 of which are in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The soil is rare and fascinating: a bed of galets roulés (rolled pebbles) over ancient molasses of marine origin. Each stone and each vine is imbued with the power of the Rhône and the wisdom of time.

Here, nature is intense but generous. The Mistral sweeps through the vines, keeping them healthy and strong. The searing heat of the day alternates with the chill of the night, and this spectacular difference in temperature forges bold, balanced and profoundly elegant wines. The gnarled, head-trained vines face the elements with the quiet nobility specific to Beaucastel.

Across these 100 historic hectares, the 13 emblematic varieties of Châteauneuf-du-Pape flourish: Mourvèdre, Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Vaccarèse, Counoise, Terret Noir, Muscardin, Clairette, Picpoul, Picardan, Bourboulenc and Roussanne. Every year, Famille Perrin renews part of this living heritage, replanting one or two hectares that have lain fallow for 10 years, ensuring the continued vitality of the vineyard without ever breaking with the legacy of time.

The vineyard is instilled with endurance, tradition and precision. At Beaucastel, the power of the Rhône, the force of the wind and the gentleness of the earth combine to create wines that defy trends, see decades out, and embody the pure soul of the great, historic terroirs.
